Manager of the Red House awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the Community.

Mandy Medlyn, manager of the Red House, Albrighton, has been awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) for her services to the community, in the Queen’s birthday honours awards and was presented with her medal by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, last month.

Mandy has been the manager of the Red House for 19 years and is now also Chair of the Melville Club

At the start of lockdown it was Mandy’s idea to convert the Parish flyer  minibus into a mobile shop for the people of the village. Mandy gathered a team of volunteers and ensured that those shielding or unable to get to the shops had food and provisions. The team also helped with collecting prescriptions, going to the post office and even dog walking!

In conjunction with St Mary’s church, food parcels were distributed throughout the village.

Mandy and the team of volunteers also cooked and delivered meals shielding  and vulnerable villagers.

We are so proud of Mandy for receiving this hugely deserved award.

Congratulations!
