For very many years the Red House has stood at the heart of the village.
Formerly a private house, and now, after extensions in 1977 and 2012, the Village Hall, it stands at not only the geographical centre but also at the centre of the community and the community’s activities.
From Council Meetings to Country Markets, private parties to public protests, weddings to wakes and from ballet to bingo, there can scarcely be anyone in Albrighton who has not at some time attended a function there.
Even when prevented by law from being open because of covid-19 restrictions, the Red House has provided a service to the community by helping those who have been required to stay in their homes. In the spring and early summer of 2020, the Manager and her team operated the Parish Council Flyer as a mobile delivery service for essential needs, while during the winter of 2020/21 the management trustees have organised a telephone helpline for the housebound. This has enabled a team of greatly valued volunteers, who have put themselves forward to help with tasks such as essential shopping, collecting prescriptions, delivering food parcels and dog walking, to play their part in serving the community.
As a building, it undoubtedly ranks amongst the finest village halls in Shropshire and even further afield. But any building requires money to be constantly spent on it to keep it smart, safe and secure. And as a building for the use and benefit of the public, it is of importance to every one of us to ensure, as much as we possibly can, that the Red House continues to be a focal point for village activities, and a building of which we can all be proud.
One way in which we can all help to achieve this aim is to commit our financial support by becoming a Red House Friend. Friends agree to give regular donations, by Bank Standing Order, of whatever sum they feel able to afford. No matter how big or small, such donations are of immense value. They can be made monthly, quarterly or yearly, whichever is felt to be most appropriate.
As examples, a donation of £50 per year works out at less than the cost of an average loaf of bread per week, while a donation of £10 per month equates to approximately the cost of a second-class postage stamp every other day!
If you would like to donate – please complete a gift aid form:
You can email the completed Gift Aid form to sec@red-house-albrughton.org.uk or drop off at the Red House.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE RED HOUSE IS THE VILLAGE HALL OF YOUR VILLAGE, AND AS SUCH IT BELONGS TO US ALL. LET’S HELP EACH OTHER TO KEEP IT AS A VILLAGE HALL WHICH WILL SERVE NOT ONLY OURSELVES BUT ALSO OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN FOR MANY LONG YEARS TO COME.
Following a joint appeal for volunteers in the parish magazine the Red House trustees have now organised a scheme to support people during the coronavirus lockdown.
